Announcing the SAFE Fellowship Program for At-risk Researchers

We are pleased to share the launch of the SAFE “Supporting At-risk researchers with Fellowships in Europe” project, which began last month. This initiative will offer up to 60 fellowships for non-EU researchers at risk, enabling them to conduct research at a European higher education or research institution for up to 24 months. This program addresses the pressing need for a secure and supportive environment, allowing researchers to safely continue their work within the EU.

Application and Matchmaking Details

  • Application Call: Opens 18 November 2024.
  • Submission Process: Applications are to be submitted by potential host institutions in the EU; individual researchers cannot apply directly. Each institution may submit only one application.

Matchmaking Service
SAFE has developed a matchmaking service to connect at-risk researchers with EU host institutions. This service is designed both for institutions seeking to host researchers and for at-risk researchers who have not yet identified a host institution.

Webinar and Registration Information

Join us at the SAFE Launch Event, a virtual webinar scheduled for 19 November 2024, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm CEST. This session will offer detailed guidance on the application process and eligibility for both EU host institutions and non-EU researchers at risk. Register by 18 November via this Zoom link.

For additional information about matchmaking and how to express interest, visit our SAFE Matchmaking Service page.

We encourage your institution to participate in this vital initiative. Please share this announcement with relevant contacts in your network, as we work together to extend academic safety and opportunity to those who need it most.
